दिल्ली के उच्च न्यायालय की स्थापना 31 अक्टूबर 1966 को हुई थी। दिल्ली का उच्च न्यायालय चार न्यायाधीशों के साथ स्थापित किया गया था। वे मुख्य न्यायाधीश के.एस. हेगड़े, न्यायमूर्ति आई। डी। दुआ, न्यायमूर्ति एच। आर। खन्ना और न्यायमूर्ति एस के कपूर थे। वर्तमान में, उच्च न्यायालय में 45 स्थायी न्यायाधीशों और 15 अतिरिक्त न्यायाधीशों की अनुमोदित शक्ति है। 21 मार्च 1919 को पंजाब और दिल्ली के प्रांतों पर अधिकार क्षेत्र के साथ लाहौर में उच्च न्यायालय की स्थापना की गई थी। यह अधिकार क्षेत्र 1947 तक चला जब भारत का विभाजन हुआ था।
